PACE® Testing Credentialing

Testing Logistics

The PACE Application and Test Procedures are located on the NFPA® website. The application fee for both NFPA members and non-NFPA members is $25.  For this fee, you will receive the Candidates Handbook which includes an application, information on the exam content, sample exam questions, and logistical information on taking the exam.  The NFPA members’ examination fee is $225, and for non-NFPA members, the fee is $250.

Once the application has been approved, the exam must be taken within ninety (90) days.  PACE is a four-hour, computer-generated test offered at more than 200 Sylvan Technology Centers a/k/a Prometric throughout the country. Each approved applicant can schedule the date and time to take the test at his or her convenience on any day except Sundays and holidays.

The Vermont Prometric Test Center is located at 600 Blair Park Road, Suite 326, in Williston, Vermont, (802) 872-0251; Site Code:  5209.

Upon completion of the exam, applicants receive their preliminary results instantly. PACE Certificates are sent to all passing applicants after scoring runs are obtained from PES.

PACE Credentialing

Candidates who successfully pass PACE and maintain the continuing education requirements may use the designation “PACE Registered Paralegal®” or “RP®.”  In order to maintain the RP credential, twelve (12) hours of continuing legal or specialty education is required every two years.  This must include at least one (1) hour in legal ethics.

Registered Paralegals should review the NFPA website for more information on credentialing and CLE requirements.

To help Registered Paralegals remember which month their renewal application is actually due, here is a chart you can use:

Anniversary Month              Month Renewal is Due

January ..................................... November
February ................................... December
March ........................................ January
April .......................................... February
May .......................................... March
June ......................................... April
July .......................................... May
August ..................................... June
September .............................. July
October ................................... August
November ............................... September
December ............................... October

If you have CLE that requires approval by the NFPA CLE Coordinator, that approval request must be submitted to NFPA before the month your RP credential renewal is due. Do not submit CLE approval requests along with your RP credential renewal.
